COMPONENTS OF SYSTEMS

A telecommunications system is a series of hardware and software which work together to communicate.  The components below from Laudon (1998:300), demonstrate the components of such a system.  When in operation a telecommunications system has the capability to transmit video, sound and graphical images,  these components can be incorporated into networks.

The following components are the essentials parts required for any telecommunications system:

    1. A Computer                             This is required in order to process the information of telecommunications

    2. A Terminal                               This acts as the input/output device to send and receive the data required in
                                                          telecommunications

    3. Channels in communication     This links the data which is transmitted between sending and receiving devices, e.g.
                                                          the terminal

    4. Processors for communication This is equipment such as modems and front-end processors, their aim is to support data
                                                          transmission

    5. Communication software          This is software which controls inputting and outputting movement and other functions in a
                                                          communications network
